Five-course brick and weatherboard on the same street
Strasburg's historic district has been on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register since 1984. The state's Department of Historic Resources describes it as a rare run of styles and building types spanning two centuries. The 1984 nomination counted 350 structures on about 130 acres around the oldest part of town.
Many of the early and mid-1800s houses there are brick, most of it laid in five-course American bond, some with molded brick cornices. Beside them, the nomination lists wood-frame houses in weatherboard and German siding, and a few in aluminum siding.
That puts three or four surfaces on a single block, and each one gets its own call: a soft wash for some, a pressure wash for others. Brick, painted wood, aluminum, and vinyl are all on our list.

Metal and slate overhead
Over that brick and weatherboard, the nomination's inventory records mostly standing-seam metal roofs, some composition, and a smaller number of slate ones. The town sits on a level plain beside the North Fork of the Shenandoah, just west of where Massanutten Mountain ends to the north, and it gets hot, humid summers with about 40 inches of precipitation a year.
Standing-seam metal and slate are both roof types we soft wash, so the panels and the slates on an old brick house in the district get the same low-pressure care.
Concrete walks, picket fences, and stone walls
The nomination says nearly every residential and commercial street in the district is bordered by concrete walkways, and very few are tree-lined. Many houses sit several feet back from the road, with yards edged by wrought-iron fences, stone walls, hedges, or picket fences.
We wash fences of every kind, picket and wrought iron included. Where rust shows up, on an iron rail or anywhere else, our rust remover takes it off most surfaces.

Two I-81 exits, 296 and 298
Strasburg has two I-81 exits, 296 at Route 55 and 298 at Route 11, and the county's 2045 Comprehensive Plan says I-81 carries 70% of all traffic in Shenandoah County. Our own work nearby includes washing the postal delivery fleets at the Woodstock, Strasburg, Middletown, and Maurertown post offices.
